There’s an American who’s been living in the U.K. for the last nine years. He’s done a few videos recently on strange U.K. names and U.S. names. One that showed up in the U.S. wa s ‘Shooter’. I mean really, can you imagine being in Wal-Mart, you lose your son and call out his name. You’ll have the place in panic.
Other ones he mentioned were Fanta, ESPN, Beretta and Evian.

I hate to state the obvious for the US, but the black community has the market cornered on name creativity. Feel free to search for the Key & Peele “College Bowl” series where they spoof this pretty hard (there are at least 3 videos).
I’m stuck with “Ashley,” which over here is 99.5% female. The gender preference switched over just a year or two after I was born. My parents had been living in NZ and had never heard of a girl named Ashley at the time. 5 years later in the States.....FUUUUU.

Depending where you are, there’s a chance half the kids in the Walmart are named Shooter.

Does this mean the “aiden/ayden” naming convention fad is finally starting to pass? I know there’s a lot of that there, too.
I am sure the parents will do a wonderful job.

Theres a Youtube channel Lost in the Pond, of a British guy living in the midwest, on the weird quirks between the two countries.

Not even unisex...definitively male for about 1,000 years, until right around the early 1980s (and the change took place almost entirely in the US). If you go to the UK or ANZ, it’s still predominantly male, but starting to follow our trend a little more.
In the US, the South is about the only place you’ll still see it, since we held onto the old English traditions longer than anywhere else.
Funny thing about gender-specific names, they tend to only flow in one direction.

My dads college roommate was Kimberley. he was a 6'+ 250 guy who grew up on a cattle farm. A bit of a Boy names Sue history.

I used to watch him and his wife about a year or two ago. Some of the stuff is interesting then it sort of fell away. He sometimes got some of the U.K. stuff and U.S. stuff either mixed up or just wrong and kept trying to be quirky.
One I follow is Evan Edinger. He's originally from Jersey, been here nine years, still a young guy and has really mixed in well here, which can take some doing as the British and American ways are quite different in normal life. Such as making friends, it can take months to just know your neighbour's and get established and years before you have good friends, but once you've put in the hard work, they will be friends for life and do anything for you.

Some good, interesting and/or funny recent ones from Evan.
